A house with a black metal roof

ROOFING CONTRACTOR IN THE GREATER DENVER AREA

GS Exterior Experts is an experienced Denver roofing contractor serving homeowners  throughout the Denver metro area. Our experienced team has been proudly serving locals in the area with high-quality work. This includes helping customers file insurance claims after home damage incidents.

We install asphalt, synthetic, metal, and tile, in impact-rated versions where hail exposure calls for it. Which one suits your house comes down to four things: how it handles hail, whether it burns, what the manufacturer warrants, and what your insurer will credit.

Roof Installation in Denver

Quality roofing can be the difference between a secure home and one that is exposed to harsh weather. As Denver roofers, we specialize in protecting structures from:

Snow

Wind

Hail

Rain

Debris

Hail is the one that matters most here. It’s the reason most Denver roofs get replaced, and impact resistance is graded Class 1 to 4 under UL 2218. Class 4 is the top class and often earns an insurance discount. Snow, wind, and rain are handled by the layers under the shingles more than by the shingles themselves.

Even the smallest leak in the roof can cause major destruction. This makes it essential to invest in timely roofing restoration for peace of mind and long-term savings.

How Each Roofing Material Compares

Every roofing material we install, side by side, and how each stacks up on impact, fire, wind, and warranty, plus the trade-off that comes with it.

Impact Fire Wind Warranty Trade-off
Asphalt Class 4 available on select lines Class A Up to 130 mph warranted Limited lifetime on premium lines Shortest service life of the four
Synthetic Class 4, UL 2218 and FM 4473 Class A 130 mph warranted 50 yr, 15 yr non-prorated Higher upfront cost than asphalt
Metal Resists puncture; dents under large hail Non-combustible High, varies by profile 40+ yr systems Denting is cosmetic but visible
Tile Resists impact; can crack under severe hail Non-combustible High 50+ yr service life Weight; deck may need assessment

Impact class describes the tested product, not a guarantee against hail damage, and no roofing material is hail-proof. And fire ratings apply to the assembly, covering, underlayment, and deck together, rather than to the shingle alone.

What's Under the Shingles

The shingles are the part you can see, and they’re rarely where a roof fails first. Four layers underneath do most of the work.

Decking. Once the old roof is off, we can see the sheathing. Soft spots, delamination, and old water damage get found here or not at all, which is one argument against covering an old roof rather than replacing it.

Ice and water shield. A self-adhering membrane at the eaves and in the valleys, where meltwater backs up behind ice. This is the layer that prevents ice dam leaks, and it is invisible once the roof is finished.

Ventilation. Intake at the soffit and exhaust at the ridge. Without balanced airflow, attic heat cooks the shingles from below and shortens their life, and it is also what causes the ice damming in the first place.

Flashing. At chimneys, valleys, sidewalls, and every penetration. Most roof leaks are flashing leaks rather than shingle leaks.

Manufacturer warranties depend on the full assembly being installed to spec. We install it that way, register your warranty, and hand over the paperwork.

Roofing FAQs

Curious about Roofing? We have the answers.

There are several simple ways to know if you need a new roof. Look for damage and signs of long-term wear and tear. This includes:

  • Cracked, curled, or missing shingles
  • Granules in gutters or near downspouts
  • Sagging along the ridge or between rafters
  • Water stains or daylight visible in the attic
  • The roof is past its expected service life

Colorado does not issue a state-level roofing license. Licensing happens at the city and county level instead, and requirements vary. Denver requires a Specialty Class D certificate plus a contractor license through Community Planning and Development, and Aurora, Boulder, and the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department each set their own rules. Denver does not offer reciprocity with other jurisdictions. Ask any contractor for their license number for your specific municipality and verify it with the local building department.

Yes. Permits are issued by your city or county rather than the state, but a permit is required for a roof replacement everywhere in Colorado. We pull the permit as part of your project.

Usually worth investigating. Hail damage often isn’t visible from the ground, and carriers have reporting deadlines that can be as short as a year from the date of loss. We’ll inspect and tell you honestly whether the damage is likely to meet your deductible before you file.

Often, though it varies by carrier and it isn’t automatic. Many Colorado insurers offer a discount for a Class 4 impact-rated roof. Worth asking yours what they credit before you specify, since the discount can offset a meaningful part of the upgrade cost.

Depends how far the damage has spread and whether water has reached the decking. Damage on one elevation is often repairable. Failure across multiple slopes, or a roof past its service life, usually points to replacement. After hail, we’d generally recommend replacement, since storm damage often reaches the deck and a repair leaves that unaddressed.
