The Colorado Climate Center’s data puts the peak for severe hail days in early to mid-June, with two-inch-plus stones most likely from late May through June, and Douglas County sits inside the corridor where those storms track. Fiber cement’s density is the whole answer here. A one-inch stone that dimples vinyl and bruises hardboard leaves a cement board unmarked, and a larger one chips an edge rather than opening the wall.
Parker’s elevation puts it under stronger UV than sea-level towns, and the effect on siding is a paint problem before it is anything else. Field-applied paint on hardboard or wood chalks and peels within a few summers on a south or west wall. A factory finish cured onto a cement board fades slowly and evenly instead, which is why the west elevation of a fiber cement house looks like the east elevation ten years on.
From late fall through spring, Parker’s walls cross the freezing line again and again, often within a single day. Wood-based siding expands and contracts with every cycle, so caulk joints open and paint edges lift. Fiber cement moves very little, which keeps the seals intact and the water out. It is the unglamorous reason the material lasts.

On the day of installation, yes, vinyl and engineered wood both cost less to put up. Spread across the life of the wall, the order flips, because fiber cement skips the recoats, patches, and replacements the others need.
Fiber cement is standard in Parker’s associations, and Colorado law prevents an HOA from banning fire-hardened materials outright. Color and profile still go through design review, which we prepare for you.
