Colorado’s climate is extremely demanding on traditional wood decks. High UV exposure, snow accumulation, freeze-thaw cycles, hailstorms, and dry mountain conditions can quickly lead to cracking, fading, warping, rot, and ongoing maintenance issues. Composite and PVC don’t absorb water, so freeze-thaw has nothing to work with, which is why we build outdoor living systems designed for Colorado weather and wildfire-conscious living.
TimberTech Advanced PVC decking is engineered without wood fiber, so it does not absorb moisture, rot, or splinter. Composite boards last decades. The frame underneath usually fails first, and it’s invisible once the deck is finished.
Most decks are framed in pressure-treated lumber, which rots eventually, especially where it meets the house. On a replacement we assess the frame before quoting rather than assuming it’s sound.
Where the deck attaches to the house is where most deck failures start. Correct flashing and fastening here isn’t optional.
Composite needs closer spacing than wood, closer still on a diagonal. A frame built for wood boards won’t always take composite without modification.
Composite moves more with temperature than wood. End gaps have to allow for it, or boards buckle in summer.
Manufacturer warranties depend on the deck being built to spec. We build to it and register your warranty.

Sometimes. It depends on the condition of the lumber and the joist spacing, since composite needs closer spacing than wood. We assess the frame before quoting and tell you honestly whether it is worth keeping.
Any dark surface does. TimberTech reports its Advanced PVC stays cooler to the touch than competitive products, and lighter colors help. On a south-facing deck it is worth factoring into the color choice.
It resists both better than wood, though nothing is immune. Capped products handle furniture and foot traffic well. Dragging metal furniture across any decking will leave a mark.
Most residential replacements run one to three weeks, depending on size, whether the substructure needs work, and the weather. We give you a schedule before we start.
Usually, the thresholds vary by jurisdiction. Denver requires a building permit at 30 inches above grade and a separate zoning permit for any uncovered deck more than 12 inches off the ground. Boulder County requires one for any deck over 200 square feet, any deck attached to the house, or any freestanding deck 30 inches or more above grade. We confirm what applies at your address and pull the permit as part of the project.
